The transition from journalist to agent hasn’t been as jarring as she might have feared. If anything, it’s been a leveling of the play field. She has spent her career moving in a well-armed world; she is now just better equipped to deal with it. The gun in her ankle holster has become a comforting presence.
Turlough has had a more difficult time.
She is not inconspicuous by any means. A woman of her slight build with a mouthy, oversized omen of death tends to leave an impression on those she comes across. Her only saving grace is that Turlough’s presence simply reinforces the perception that she is a character of little threat and no consequence, a bizarre kind of safety net.
After all, once the theft of the ADVENT data cache is discovered, who will ever believe that the woman with her hand clamped around the beak of her insolent daemon might be responsible?
